What nice inexpensive hotels would you fine locals recommend for a couple coming down to Portland in early November?

Weapos;re coming from Seattle via Amtrak, and would prefer to not rent a car. Basic getaway action for our 6th anniversary--wander downtown, window shop, dine, all the good stuff. Weapos;re hoping for $150~ a night or less if possible, and hopefully nothing crackhouseish. We donapos;t anything in the way of major ameneties--no pool required, gym, or anything like that. Just central, comfy beds, and nice.
